Saat ini di seluruh dunia, penerbangan adalah hal yang sangat umum diketahui dan dipergunakan fungsinya oleh seluruh umat manusia dalam melakukan perjalanan dari suatu tempat, kota, negara, benua yang satu ke tempat yang lain. Pesatnya dunia penerbangan selain menguntungkan umat manusia, juga menyimpan resiko yang juga bisa sangat mengancam manusia itu sendiri. Salah satunya adalah adalah terjadinya tabrakan di udara antar pesawat karena terlalu banyaknya pesawat yang beroperasi. Untuk menghindari tabrakan itu terjadi (avoiding collision) maka dibuatlah semacam peraturan di udara yang disepakati oleh para pelaku dunia penerbangan di dunia serta pemberian hak-hak perjalanan di udara (Right of Way Rules) disesuaikan dengan jenis-jenis pesawat dan jenis-jenis kondisi yang ada.

Rights of Way for Differing Types of Aircraft

Baloons

• Cannot be steered
• Relies on wind
• Not easily manoeuvrable
• Hard to avoid collisions
• All others must "Give Way" to baloons

Gliders

• Fairly manoeuvrable
• Air speed is low
• No Engines
• Right of Way over Airships and Aircraft

Airships

• Engines
• Easily avoid collisions
• Uncommon

Conventional Powered Aircraft

• Manoeuvrable
• Gives way to all other Aircraft

Approaching Head-On

Each aircraft must turn to their right.

Converging Courses

If aircraft are flying at the same level,the left one gives way.

Overtaking

When overtaking, the faster aircraft must move to the right of the slower one.

Emergency Priority

When two aircraft are landing, the lower one has right of way, unless the higher one is having an emergency.

Rules at Night

Most aircarft nowadays carry ANTI-COLLISIONS lights and NAVIGATION lights.

Seeing other Aircraft

The clock code is used to say out-loud where another aircraft is positioned in accordance to your own aircraft.
